Great book! Here are a few user tips

This is an excellent book with stunning photos of Jess Brown's dolls and workspace. Very inspiring! The patterns included are good but you will need to trace them onto paper because they are printed double sided. I attached a photo of the first doll I made based on the patterns and instructions in this book. This was also my first time using a sewing machine, one I inherited from my grandmother (no fancy stitches needed). My daughter named the doll "Honey". I loved that the pattern includes a doll with arms attached, because I have a baby in the house. However, the arms looked a little funny right up until they were stuffed - then they looked perfect. I threw away my first two doll body pieces thinking I had ruined the arms, then I went ahead and stuffed the third one and realized it was supposed to be that way. Ooops!
The book has inspired me to see doll possibilities in old clothing, vintage and repurposed. The dress on my doll was made from a favorite skirt of mine that had become worn out. What a great idea for lasting treasures I hope my children will keep forever.

Gorgeous hardbacked book with instructions that are well laid out and easy to follow

This time I didnt use amazon and instead went through Wordery in the UK to get Jess Browns The Making of a Rag Doll in hardback. My book arrived today in the mail and it is so much more than I anticipated.
I buy most of my books in the kindle format but this is one book that I would not dream of buying any other way than hardback. I am sooooo glad I pre-ordered this book last april through Wordery.
The layout is gorgeous, the colours and textures in the book have a very earthy organic feel to them.
The photos are so beautiful and the book is loaded with all sorts of pictures that take you right through from start to finish. The patterns(there are 10) are very basic. I have sewn for years and the patterns in the book are for those who are entry level, for anyone who is a little more experienced it is nothing to put a more polished spin to the patterns.
I loved the patterns in the back of the book---they slot in and out. The patterns cover front and back of the papers it is best to trace the patterns onto other paper and keep the templates as they are.
Update:I love the book and will use it an inspiration book, the pattern I attempted to make and quickly realised that its just not a great pattern. A basic pattern like it should have come out pretty normal and nice-this one did not.
The book on its own would be a 5/5 but with the pattern I have to drop it to 4/5.

A little treasure

This book is a real treasure. Yes, I agree with the other reviewer that the patterns are more entry level (which is great for the parent who wishes to create a doll for their child but is intimidated by the prospect) but what I loved most about it is hearing about the process of creating these dolls from the artist herself. There are so many ways to customise and upgrade the design but having a place to start is really helpful. Also, there is a fantastic resource list in which the author lists her materials sources.
It is untrue that the Kindle version doesn't have the patterns- please see instructions from chronicle books for downloading the patterns.
