A jewel for anyone studying ancient esoteric wisdom

"A Wish Can Change Your Life" could be called "How to Enhance and Appreciate Your Own Life While Making the World a Better Place for All Human Beings That You Come in Contact With." This book is well written and filled with smile inspiring wit. It is thought challenging, spiritually stimulating and action provoking. The authors impart a tremendous amount of beautiful insight and knowledge into 272 pages that contain mythological stories from all over the world, introspective meditations and interactive exercises. Though deep in content, the book is written so that even an older child can enjoy the stories and application of esoteric instruction. The concepts are easy to understand and a joy to implement. I have been practicing Kabbalah from this book for over a year and it has profoundly changed my life. I attest - wishes do come true! I hope that you give your wish a chance to change your life too!

Five stars just aren't enough

For those who already know something about Kabbalah this book offers bold and exciting new insights. And for those who are newcomers to the subject prepare yourself for an empowering and always entertaining journey through the Tree of Life. For this is no ordinary book, this is an experiential sequence of life-altering encounters with the ten spheres of the Tree itself. And upon completion of the book I am certain that each and every reader will look afresh both at themselves and their world. Written with wit, originality, and an expansive grasp of history, mythology, religion and popular culture, this is a book that I can reccomend without hesitation.

This book is amazing and easy to use

I have been teaching creative expression and manifestation classes and this book really brings the concepts to reality. Most Kabbalah books are hard to understand and complicated. This one is not! The book is a magical journey and should not be done alone. The miracles are so profound you will want someone doing it with you to share your discoveries. The story telling is wonderful and the activities are clear and insightful. I have read this book 5 times or more and I see something new each time. I was so inspired, started teaching workshops around this topic just to say in community and keep the energy going around wishes and dreams fulfilled. Get a copy for yourself and get a copy for a friend, you will love this book.

A not-so-simple introduction to the subject

Delivered in question and answer format, this book tries to guide the reader through the maze of business intelligence, including data warehousing, BI cubes, ETL and other such esoterica. I wouldn't call it "simplified", but it is a pretty good introduction. The material is covered in enough detail to be useful, at the expense of losing the reader sometimes. In spite of its question and answer format, this needs careful reading.

Useful for beginner audience

Little things like page 101's listing of Windows and .NET as distinct "platforms" (Unix, Linux and "mainframe operating systems" also feature in the list) or page 159's dodgy description of ROLAP make me question the author's hands-on experience with data warehouse implementation. If Mr. Khan has indeed "consulted for major corporations on data warehousing and business intelligence", he must have dealt with "softer" or higher-level matters. The book feels exactly like a book by a consultant or an academic: organized (although in this case moderately padded with a number of self-repeats), methodical, big on bullet-point lists and definitions, encyclopaedic, useful to a novice, but not useful to practitioner. Add "out of date" to the list of complaints: the book's substitution of OLAP for "business intelligence" is just one of the things that make the book feel as if it were written in late nineties. Repeating myself, the book will be useful to a beginner - offering an introduction to (a) data warehouse design, (b) OLAP, (c) project management; you can easily find better books on (a), but here you get a 3-in-1 - but people who have been building databases will not lose anything if they pass.

In the words of the authors, Simply Scheme is designed to be a "prequel" to another book, Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs. This latter title has been a staple of introductory computer science courses for years, but it assumes a certain background.

Simply Scheme works hard to make the somewhat tricky ideas of Scheme accessible. This tutorial stresses small sections on key language features, from basic functions, variables, and onward to recursion and other functional programming concepts. While languages like C++ and Java use objects to model data, Scheme programmers break a problem down into functions. The art--and elegance--of problem solving in Scheme comes from applying recursion and other design concepts.

Longer code samples in the book include a tic-tac-toe game, examples that work with poker and bridge, and a working spreadsheet demo. Programming in Scheme

One of my favorite programs in the book is the locate procedure

to find the path of a particular location in a world tree.There are other elegant recursive procedures throughout the book. Recursion was a weakness
for me when I first started to program, but studying Brian Harvey's
examples I feel more confident in dealing with recursion.
I could only dream of being as masterful as Brian Harvey
is at recursion.I took a class at Berkeley with Brian Harvey

Another program that I really liked was the parse program on page
312. I felt it was well organized and very creative. The choices program
on page 12 can be used sort of like the product rule done in discrete
mathematics, say to find all possible outcomes in license plates, and
other such outcomes(remember product rule).Great book.

A good conceptual extender

I have been programming for many years in languages such as Assembler,C, C++ and Python. I found I had not many difficulties with getting the concepts of Assembler and C, but concerning C++ and Python there were many things in these languges which I was not able to use effectively, since I did not understand the concepts. That is where Simply Scheme is such a great book. It explains quickly and easily ideas such as recursion, vectors, trees and general symbolic programming. It also helps with terminology, giving names to things I had been doing for years, but had not defined.

I would suggest this book as a great step to those who can doing many things in lower level languages, but want to extend their effeciency. I do not think I would ever use the Scheme language as such, but I will certainly use what I have learned in this book for my programming.
