With a real need for "healthcare informatics", this is an excellent book and a must read...

"As a 20+ year healthcare IT professional working specifically on electronic health record (EHR) applications as well as the ongoing analysis of this data, I have come to realize the immense problems the healthcare industry is facing today because of the ongoing proliferation of data. With the seemingly endless stream of patient, doctor, healthcare provider, insurance company, and drug manufacture data, the industry has created a real void as well as an opportunity to tap into the huge data store in an attempt to bring real positive change regarding needed efficiencies to the industry. I have found that being able to frame this real life problem has been a challenge until reading Dr. Stephen Kudyba's excellent text "Healthcare Informatics: Improving Efficiency and Productivity".

I was amazed at how quickly and precisely Dr. Kudyba's text not only framed the problem but discussed possible solutions to tackling the problem as well as provided real life examples of applications and processes in use today which are addressing the problem head-on. He does a great job of going beyond theory to actual practice by identifying informatics applications that have been incorporated by healthcare organizations. Two examples in particular from the book which resonated with me was the example of an informatics project that turned a healthcare system's paper-based resources into digital assets as well as the example of the E-commerce self-service patient check-in application which was implemented at a New Jersey hospital. Honestly its one thing to discuss problems and propose possible solutions, but Dr Kudyba's book goes beyond that by identifying "real" solutions in use today.

Lastly, I found that this text serves as a groundbreaking, foundational textbook for a potential graduate course in healthcare data informatics. We cannot ignore the fact that informatics is at the heart of correcting many of the "ills" in healthcare, and because of this, Dr Kudyba's book is a must read!

Idiosyncratic; Hoyt's book is more comprehensive and cheaper

The intended audience for this book is hospital administrators--including CMIOs and chiefs of staff--that are needing to plan for buying and implementing healthcare information technology. The material covered is less comprehensive and more idiosyncratic than what is in Hoyt's Medical Informatics (4th edition 2010). There is a good overview of project managment although you're probably better off learning that from a good PM book or taking a course. The importance of utilizing nurses in implementation of an EHR is exhaustively discussed. An implemention of computer physician order entry (CPOE) in a hospital is presented in detail; this is the most useful part of the book and is recommended. Almost half the book is on analytics and data mining; these chapters are business- and research-oriented and I found them rather obvious.

This volume covers the principal rock-forming silicates, oxides, hydroxides, carbonates, sulphates, phosphates, and halides. For each structure, cell parameters, cell volume, molar volume, density, formula, and formula weight are presented. For each cation site, positional parameters, site symmetry, Wyckoff notation, nearest-neighbour distances, mean distances, standard deviation of distance, variance of central bond angle, quadratic elongation, and electrostatic energy are presented. All data, except for cell parameters and atom positions, are original calculations unique to this volume. Original polyhedral drawings of most of the structure types are also included. Mineralogists, petrologists, geochemists and geophysicists will find this unique book very useful. It may also serve as an advanced text for students in these fields.

Can Any1 Ever Be the Enemy?

Picture: Illinois, the early 90s, a public high school. In an honors English class, we were discussing PC. One student asked, "But are we headed to a day when only thin, Christian, non-disabled, non-bald, straight, white men can be the enemies in literature or film?" I usually didn't care for this girl and her conservative thinking, but that comment has stuck with me for 20 years. I think about it when analyzing this book.

The author here posits that in many films, white men and Black men only get along with they have an Asian other to treat as the enemy. In another chapter, it said many Blaxploitation films had Asian and Black male characters united against a racist, white character. I appreciate the author's concern about demonizing the other. However, I think it does go a bit too far. I think it concludes with saying post-911, Arab or other brown-skinned men are forced to be the enemy. However, that allegation was made in many 1980s flicks. (The book "Off-White" may touch upon it.) You will wonder, "Well, who can be the bad guy if soooo many groups are excluded for reasons of sensitivity?"

In one chapter, "The Matrix" is discussed. The author says Keanu Reeves plays a white man in it. However, I think the "Mixed-Race Hollywood" anthology said he was purposely chosen as a Eurasian man and it is his multiraciality that plays into the movie's success with so many audiences. The author says there were no Asians in the first "Matrix" and I thought, "Well, what about that Black character that had epicanthic eyelids!?!" I really think the author's reading of "The Matrix" may offend some mixed-raced Asians.

This book had so much potential when I read the summary and saw the table of contents. However, I don't find myself raving about it even close to how I thought it would.

Suspenseful, intriguing

A fun, intense, and suspenseful read.

Many of the aspects of this novel were a little out there and not very realistic, but it was a fun read. I enjoyed it.

The novel was a quick read. I recommend it if you like darker, suspenseful new adult novels.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is going to be very dark, with the killing and human trafficking that is the basis of the book. It was amazing to see how things unfolded and gray was able to finally help the girls. They had gone through so much and had lost all hope. This book will have plenty of twists and turns and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Im glad the girls were saved and thane and gray were able to get their hea, they deserve it so much. Toni left the door open for more, but if it ended here I would be okay with it. This story will open your eyes to the horrors many women go through being sold to the highest bidder. It will be hard to read at times, because you dont want to believe this is actually happening. It is a story that needed to be written, to open everyone's eyes.

OMG YES!

I am just about halfway done with the book and I just have to say, it has to be one of the funniest books I've ever read! The book starts out kind of slow and introduces the reader to Shane's childhood, his relationship with his brother, and his battle with his sexuality. 5 stars for the content. It later starts to pick up and we learn about his adolescent awkwardness and his college stories. Now, about the actual printing and shipping of the book: My book arrived in a yellow Amazon envelope slightly crushed and bent, and upon reading the book, there seem to be black dots on certain pages. C'mon Amazon! But anyway, this is a great book!

I've watched Shane on YouTube since 2010 and I blame him for my sense of messed up humor and I wouldn't have it any other way. So when Shane wrote this book I preordered it immediately and I'm so happy I did.This book will make you laugh and teach you to stay humble. As soon as I got it in the mail I couldn't put it down! It distracted me from my anxiety and kept me smiling and laughing. I really recommended this book to anyone with a messed up sense of humor or if you're looking for a quick laugh.

Relatabe, self-depricating and humorous

There's more self-deprecating humour where that came from! I rarely, if ever pre-order books, but l pre-ordered It Gets Worse by Shane Dawson on the basis of how much l enjoyed his first book. Shane was one of the first YouTubers l truly paid attention to. He has become synonymous with the very word "YouTuber". I found Dawson to be very relatable and engaging in his New York Times best seller I Hate Myselfie and by the end of the book l found myself wanting more. Well, more has arrived in the form of Shane's new volume, It Gets Worse.

Despite it's rather depressing title, it is not a negative book and it offers a glimmer of light for all struggling teenagers. While l can't relate on a personal basis to every (or even most) events described by Shane, he has the ability to be personable and connect with his audience. As proven with his first volume, his ability to reach his audience begins, but doesn't end behind a computer screen. Dawson is witty, charming and displays surprising dept. He's watchable but also happens to be highly readable as well. Whether it's stories of his family pretending to win the lottery or a difficult heartbreak, the book is hard to put down.

I must say l like Shane's second book more than the first. While l Hate Myselfie was a funny collection of first experiences and essays of embarrassing stories, It Gets Worse picks deep at the metaphorical scabs on the YouTuber's skin. We find here a more mature Shane Dawson —that's not to say he gets all philosophical on us plans to stop making Galaxy videos— he's just more comfortable with himself and aware. There are some darker moments and references to suicide and Dawson wanting to die as a teenager, but those are not including for comedic purposes. They are honest thoughts he had as he went through adolescence. The beloved YouTuber has won his battle with depression and perhaps his tale can inspire his following. When Shane tackles his confused feelings about his own sexuality, unrequited loves and life lessons learned he allows himself to be completely exposed.

Most adults would likely gain very little from reading It Gets Worse as they may not completely grasp Shane's brand of humour. l believe reading about these experiences can be truly beneficial for a teenager going through the hardships that come with adolescence. It gives them a sense of understand and tells them that they are understood. Besides, it's not all gloom and doom, there are some laugh-out-loud moments in these pages!

For the record, I'll still watch every Galaxy video you make Shane. 4/5 stars.
