THE STREETS, MY CRADLE, the story of Jennifer Lynn Jackson's horrific past and the story of the person struggling to get off the streets, out of prostitution, off drugs, overcome the pain of physical and sexual abuse. The story of the silent survivor and the road to recovery.
This painful, dehumanizing story of a young girls struggle with overcoming a life of physical and sexual abuse did not take place in some third world country but right here in the United States of America.
Author Jennifer L. Jackson lived in the Bay Area as a young girl. At age five and twelve she was sexually molested. Not having been informed enough about appropriate touching, Jennifer kept the horrific experiences of sex abuse to herself. She realized later how it affected her mentally. Because of the affect the abuse had on her, her feelings of neglect at home, her being young, naive only twelve years old Jennifer fell for the false love and attention she received from an older guy that frequently visited her at a school in Oakland, Ca. called, "The Street Academy." Jennifer recalls their meeting and all the nice things he use to say about her. Blowing her head up and making her feel really special. They became what she thought was boyfriend and girl friend. He gained her trust then used very brutal methods, like beating her with a wire clothes hanger to make her submit to him in order to get her to Prostitute for him. She was fortunate enough to escape from the influence of that vicious Pimp. But, the damage was done. Not knowing where else to turn to Jennifer ran to the streets for comfort and found just the opposite. She was introduced to heroin and crystal meth between the ages of twelve and fourteen years old. She eventually turned to prostitution as a means of survival and to support her drug habit. A drug habit that lasted for thirty years, she went from using heroin to crack cocaine when she relocated to Los Angeles, Ca. Where she would stay sober for six months to a year, work jobs like, Community Organizer, Staffing Coordinator, Job Developer, but having been on drugs for so long she could not face the pain of her past life of so much abuse and would relapse back into her addiction. Her addiction and involvement in prostitution became worse after her children were taken, leading her to walk the streets of Los Angeles six days to two weeks straight with no desire to sleep but to get money for drugs to numb the pain of her reality. In the book "The Streets, My Cradle" Author Jennifer L. Jackson not only shares information about the thirty year nightmare she was in, but when and how she eventually woke up, took responsibility for her life, got into therapy, went to a sober living home and finally, finally got out of the "Street Life" and off drugs for good!
WHAT DO YOU ACCEPT?
(From the book, THE STREETS, MY CRADLE)
One day I was walking down the street.
I smelt something & wondered could that be me?
I took a shower, I knew I had.
Could that still be me smelling so bad?
Then God said it wasn't my underarms or my feet.
But all the garbage that had been dumped in me.
Because God cleaned me up, I now smell "Oh so Good!"
And I don't accept what I normally would.
